Six steps between today and your certification

The pace depends on your starting point, not on a number of hours. With daily Scrum practice, a few weeks of targeted revision are often enough.

  1. Step 1

    Test your level

Twenty questions without a timer are enough to place your starting point. No account, no card.

  2. Step 2

    Find your gaps

Stop revising at random. Your progress by topic shows your strengths, your gaps and what to work on first.

  3. Step 3

    Work on your weak spots

Weak spots mode rebuilds sessions from your actual mistakes, starting with the topics that weigh most in the exam.

  4. Step 4

    Sit mock exams

The official format of your certification, timer included, with no answers until the end.

  5. Step 5

    Measure your readiness

Your mock exam average against the official passing score, topic by topic. The number that says whether you are ready.

  6. Step 6

    Take your certification

You book on the day your results clear the threshold consistently. Not before, and not on a hunch.

Stop counting questions.Measure your readiness.

ScrumKata compares your recent mock exam average against the passing score, and shows you exactly where your gaps are.

Your time matters: revise what will change the outcome. Topics are ranked by their weight in the exam and by how well you handle them, so your effort lands where it counts.

Questions built to be understood, not memorised

A useful question puts a situation in front of you and asks what the framework says.A useless one asks you to recite a definition. We only write the first kind.

No dumps. No stolen questions.

ScrumKata questions are original, written to test whether you understand the Scrum concepts. Reproducing the official questions would train you to recognise a wording rather than to reason, and reasoning is what the exam measures.

Frequently asked questions

About ScrumKata

Is ScrumKata affiliated with Scrum.org?

No. ScrumKata is an independent platform: not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Scrum.org. The PSM, PSPO, PSD, PAL, PSK and SPS marks belong to Scrum.org. Our questions are written by us from the public guides, and serve your preparation only.

Are these the real exam questions?

No, and that is deliberate. We publish no dumps and no leaked questions. Reproducing official questions would train you to recognise a wording rather than to understand Scrum. On exam day, the slightest rephrasing would catch you out.

Are the questions original?

Yes, entirely. Each one is written from the Scrum Guide and the specialist guides, with its reference to the relevant section. An automated check verifies before publication that no question overlaps another, in its wording or in its answers.

How do I know whether I am ready?

By your readiness score: the average of your last five mock exams, placed against the certification's official passing score. Only mock exams count, never practice mode, since practice shows the answer as you go. When that average clears the threshold consistently, you can book.

How is this different from a plain practice test?

A practice test gives you a score. ScrumKata tells you what to do with it: which topics cost you points, which weigh most in the exam, which questions you missed and have not yet confirmed, and how far you are from the official threshold. The score is a starting point, not the conclusion.

What does free access include?

Quick and Practice modes on every certification, with a selection of questions representative of the bank, plus your history. No card required. Full mock exams, Weak spots mode, the Marathon and detailed tracking are part of Premium access.

Preparing your certification

How do I prepare for PSM I?

PSM I rests almost entirely on the Scrum Guide 2020, which you should have read in full at least twice. Start with a mock exam to place your level, work the topics below the threshold, then run timed mock exams until you clear 85% steadily. Our dedicated guide sets out the programme.

Detailed preparation guide →

How do I prepare for PSM II?

PSM II no longer tests knowledge of the guide but its application: coaching, organisational impediments, team dynamics. The questions are situations where several answers look acceptable. Preparation runs through scenarios rather than memorisation, and the questions read more like dilemmas than definitions.

Detailed preparation guide →

How do I prepare for PSPO I?

PSPO I covers the Scrum Guide seen from the Product Owner: Product Goal, Product Backlog, value, stakeholders. The classic difficulty is the boundary between what the Product Owner decides and what the Developers decide. Practise until that boundary is a reflex.

Detailed preparation guide →

How do I prepare for PSPO II?

PSPO II focuses on value and its measurement: Evidence-Based Management, product strategy, portfolio trade-offs. It asks you to reason in outcomes rather than deliverables. The situations are longer and the answers more nuanced than at PSPO I.

Detailed preparation guide →

Are the questions based on the current Scrum Guide?

Yes. Every question follows the 2020 Scrum Guide, the version Scrum.org assessments are based on, along with the Kanban Guide for Scrum Teams, the Nexus Guide and the Evidence-Based Management Guide for the certifications that draw on them. Each one cites the section it comes from.

How much do PSM I and PSM II cost?

At the time of writing, Scrum.org charges around $200 per PSM I attempt and $250 per PSM II attempt, with no free retake on failure. Check the current amount on scrum.org, these prices change. ScrumKata does not sell the certification, only the preparation.

How long does it take to prepare for a Scrum certification?

It depends on your starting point far more than on a number of hours. With daily Scrum practice, a few weeks of targeted revision are often enough for a level I. Without field experience, expect longer. The right marker is not the duration, it is the moment your mock exams clear the threshold.

Is ScrumKata suitable for beginners?

Yes, provided you have read the Scrum Guide first: we train understanding, we do not replace reading the guide. Practice mode shows the explanation after each question, which makes it a learning tool and not only a check.
